The Alliance of Marine Mammal Parks and Aquariums was founded in 1987 in the USA as the Marine Mammal Interest Group and associates marine parks, aquariums, dolphinariums, zoos, research facilities and several zoo associations that adhere to strict breeding standards. The 80 members (2023) are mainly from the USA and Mexico, but also from many Caribbean islands and other countries (Hong Kong, Italy, Canada, Portugal, Spain...).
Animal Keepers Association of Africa was founded 2005 in Uganda as part of Pan African Association of zoos and aquaria (PAAZA). It has nearly 200 members.

Association of butterfly breeders - both commercial farms and public butterfly exhibitions. It was established in February 2006 and is based in the USA.
Botanic Gardens Conservation International was founded 1987 under the auspices of IUCN in Great Britain. It associates about 800 botanical gardens and similar institutions (arboretums, zoological-botanical gardens etc.) from more than 100 countries ot the world.
The Federal Working Group for Small Mammals was established in the then GDR, where there were many state-funded breeding organizations for various groups of animals with hundreds thousands members (individuals). Due to the fact that some institutions (primarily Tierpark Berlin and the Martin Luther University in Halle) had close contacts with similar institutions in the USSR and Mongolia and bred many of the small mammals from there which were suitable for breeding in households (as pets - e.g. gerbils), it fell the decision to unite all interested - breeders of small mammals into one group. Based on this, the Central Working Group for Small Mammals (Zentrale Arbeitsgruppen, i.e. ZAG Kleinsäuger) was founded in Tierpark Berlin on 23rd June 1979, later changed to the Federal Working Group (BAG). Today, it has several sections (focused on specific groups of small mammals) and unites large number of breeders (individuals and zoos) of small mammals mainly from Germany, but also from other European countries (Czech Republic, Poland, Netherlands, Great Britain, Switzerland...).
The Conservation Planning Specialist Group was established in 1979 as the Captive Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG) to provide liaison between the field conservation community and the breeding community (between ex-situ and in-situ conservation). In 1994, the organization was renamed to Conservation Breeding Specialist Group (CBSG) and in 2017 to its current name. It is a global network of conservation professionals dedicated to saving threatened species by increasing the effectiveness of conservation efforts worldwide. It is part of the IUCN Species Survival Commission (SSC). It has several hundred members and more than 10 regional branches (Australia, Brazil, Europe, Indonesia, Japan, Canada, Mesoamerica, Mexico, Southeast Asia, South Asia, South Africa). The headquarters is in the USA.
European Association for Aquatic Mammals was founded in 1972 in Hrderwijk, The Netherlands as interst group. In 2012, it was changed to non-profit organisation with seat in Brussels, Belguim. It associates European breeders of aquatic, mainly marine mammals (zoos, aquariums...) and persons involved in ex situ and in situ protection (veterinarians, biologists, researcher, trainers, caretakers...).

European Association of Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarians was founded in 1966 in Rostock. It associates around 600 members from more than 50 countries of Europe.
European Elephant Keeper and Manager Association was founded in 1997,had more than 130 members (elephant keepers), but it is inactive since about 2014.

European Union of Aquarium Curators
European Union of Aquarium Curators was founded in May 1972 in Besel (officially registered only in May 2000). It associates not only public aquariums of Europe, but also important breeders of fish and reptiles.
Association of German Zoo-supporters (Gemeinschaft Deutscher Zooförderer) was established in 1994 in Erfurt - in response to media attacks against zoos. Currently (2016) is based in Wuppertal and associates about 60 Societies of Friends of particular zoos. In 2018, the statutes were changed and the association was opened also to foreign zoos. On that occasion, the association was renamed to Gemeinschaft der Zooförderer and the abbreviation also slightly changed from GDZ to GdZ. Currently (2023), the association unites more than 70 Associations of friends of individual zoos from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Spain.
International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine
International Association for Aquatic Animal Medicine was founded 1969, it is based in the USA and associates individuals, who are professionally interested in and devote a significant amount of time to the practice of aquatic animal medicine, teaching and research in aquatic animal medicine, or the husbandry and management of aquatic animals.
International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators
International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators was founded in 1993 in Minnesota - associates not only zoos, but also individuals active in bird training and involved in environmental and educational programs. Most members are from USA, others from Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Australia, South Africa etc.
International Marine Animal Trainers' Association was founded 1973 in Marine World Africa USA in Redwood City, California, but already in the previous year, 2 workshops were held (in San Diego and Rancho Palos Verde), which preceded the creation of the association. IMATA has more than 1,400 members (of all types - including individual and emeritus individual), of which there are more than 50 accredited breeding facilities (aquariums, Sea Worlds, zoos, etc.) and about 10 organizations (zoo associations and other organizations). Most of the accredited facilities are from the USA and Mexico, the others from several Caribbean islands and a few from other countries (Finland, French Polynesia, Italy...).
International Reptile Conservation Foundation was created in the USA and is focused in support conservation and research projects for survival reptiles and amphibians and their habitats and ecosystems in all the world.
International Union for Conservation of Nature was founded 1948 in Gland (Switzerland) - organization focused to the preservation of natural resources,w which is largest environmental network in the world. It hasmore than 1,400 members, 15,000 experts and is active in more than 160 countries.
International Zoo Educators Association was founded 6th September 1972 in Frankfurt am Main to enable the annual meetings of zoo educators, their discussion, exchange of experience and ideas.. It is dedicated to expanding the educational impact of zoos and aquariums worldwide. Its mission is to improve the education programs in the facilities of its members, to provide access to the latest thinking, techniques, and information in conservation education and to support excellence in animal care and welfare.
The founding members were the zoos of Frankfurt, Amsterdam, Paignton and Copenhagen. In the beginning, most of the members were also from Europe, IZE is governed by the Swiss legal system, it was based in Switzerland for many years (first in Bern at the WAZA headquarters, then in Gaud). Today, is based in the US, has more than 600 members from more than 200 institutions of 51 countries (2023).
Pan African Sanctuary Alliance was founded 2000 in Uganda, registered is in USA and United Kingdom. It brings together 23 primate sanctuaries and centers in 13 African countries (2023) on the one hand and a number of partners and supporters from among non-governmental organizations, experts and donors etc. on the other. The aim is to support primate sanctuaries, ensure animal welfare, protect wildlife (through programs) and investing in communities (their development and improvement of living standards).
Species 360 was founded 1974 as ISIS (International Species Information System) and renamed to current name in 2016. It provides to its member zoos the data collecting about captive animals and also software of ZIMS (Zoological Information Management System), what is the most complete database of knowledge about 22,000 bred species. Species 360 has around 1,500 members (2023), of which 1,300 are zoos and 40 zoological associations, the rest are universities, conservation organizations and specialist scientific publications.
West African Primate Conservation Action was founded 2001 in Heidelberg (afterwards, in 2007, as a non-profit organization in Ghana) on the initiative of several European zoos and organizations for the effective rescue of primates in West Africa, led by Heidelberg Zoo, which still manages the organization, although the official seat is in Accra. The aim is to protect several species of West African primates (ex-situ and in-situ) - currently in Ghana and Ivory Coast. WAPCA has 19 members - zoos (2023) and 26 supporters (zoos, associations and other organizations). It also runs the Accra Primate Breeding Center in Accra, which cooperates with European zoos.
World Animal Protection was arose as World Society for the Protection (WSPA) in 1981 by the merger of two organizations - the World Federation for the Protection of Animals (WFPA) founded in 1953 and the International Society for the Protection of Animals (ISPA) founded in 1959. It was renamed to current name in 2014. It has 15 branches, is active in over 150 countries and has more than 90 member societies. It struggles for better conditions for animals, for better treatment of animals, against cruelty and suffering of animals, against the commercial use of wild animals (e.g. in traditional Asian medicine), for responsible tourism (without the use of wild animals for tourist entertainment - e.g. petting zoos or dressage ) etc.
World Parrot Trust dedicates to saving parrots. It was founded by Mike Reynolds in 1989 in Paradise Park in Cornwall (United Kingdom). The Trust finances the conservation, research projects, educational programs etc. It supports conservation and welfare projects of more than 60 species of parrots in more than 40 countries and in cooperation with IUCN protection of 89 parrots from the destruction of natural habitat. It has about 60 partners and collaborators (zoos and other organizations), more than 70 funders and sponsors (to a large extent also the zoo) and branches in Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain, Scandinavia, Africa, Australia, USA, Canada, Central America, Brasil...
World Pheasant Association unites zoos, organizations and private breeders of galliformes. It was founded in 1975 in the UK and currently has several expert groups focused on specific galliforms and more than 10 branches in other countries (Benelux, Czech Republic + Slovakia, China, France, India, Hungary, Germany, Pakistan, Poland, Portugal, Austria, Spain, Great Britain) and 4 affiliates (Pheasant and Waterfal Society of Australia, Bird Conservation Nepal, Taiwan Pheasant Association and ZGAP). WPA finances and manages a number of ex-situ and in-situ projects worldwide.

Organization dedicates with protection of many specific animals and their environment (primarily of little known and highly endangered). It operates worldwide and has more than 60 sponsors, supporters and collaborators from ranks of zoos and associations - mainly from Germany, but also from several other countries (Ireland, Poland, France, Great Britain, USA, etc.)

Society for the preservation of old and endangered breeds of domestic animals was founded in 1981 and is based in Witzenhausen. It associates more than 2,100 members - from farmers through veterinarians to farms and zoos. In 1995, it introduced so-called Ark Project (Arche-Projekt) - a sort of status or quality marks for selected breeders of old endangered breeds of domestic animals. It is the "Arche-Hof" (Ark farm) - for agricultural facilities, "Arche-Dorf" (village) for municipalities with 4 or more breeding facilities, "Arche-Region" for regions with 4 or more facilities, "Arche-Park" for zoos, domestic animal parks, school farms etc.
Institut Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature
The Congolese Institute of Nature Conservation was founded in 1934 as IPNB - Institut des Parcs Nationaux du Congo Belge (Institute of Belgian Congo National Parks), over the years it was many times renamed - to INCN - Institut National de la Conservation de la Nature (National Institute for Nature Conservation) in 1967, ICNC - Institut de la Conservation de la Nature au Congo (Institute of Nature Conservation of Congo) in 1969, IZCN - Institut Zaïrois pour la Conservation de la Nature (Zaire Institute for Nature Conservation) in 1975 and the current name is used since 1997. According to another version, in 1967, the name was changed to IPNC - Institut des Parcs Nationaux du Congo (Institute for Congolese National Parks) and to INCN only in 1972, after that to IZCN in 1975 and ICCN aince 1997.
The institute originally managed only National Parks, later reserves and other protected areas, but in 2010, the IJZBC - Institut des Jardins Zoologiques et Botaniques du Congo (Institute of Zoological and Botanical Gardens of the Congo) was attached to it, thereby ICCN taking over its function, i.e. the management of zoological and botanical gardens of public importance, and newly also ex-situ centers.
Institut des Jardins Zoologiques et Botaniques du Congo
Institute of Zoological and Botanical Gardens of Congo, which was fouded 5th May 1978 as Institute of Zoological and Botanical Gardens of Zaire (IJZBZ - Institut des Jardins Zoologiques et Botaniques du Zaïre) was a government organization charged with the management (and possibly also the establishment) of zoological and botanical gardens of public interest, while replacing the institutes of individual zoos (in Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Kisangani, Kisanta and Eala). As a result, practically all zoos were united under one organization functioning de facto partially as a national association. In 2010, the Institute was abolished (and the zoos came under ICCN).

The Hungarian Society of Wild and Zoo Animals Veterinarians was founded in 2004 and currently (2023) has 30 members (membership is individual). MVÁÁT is a member of EAZWV (European Association of Wild and Zoo Veterinarians).
Vielfältige Initiative zur Erhaltung gefährdeter Haustierrassen
Diverse (or Universal) Initiative for preservation of rare breeds of domestic animals, abbreviated VIEH (what in German means cattle) was founded in 2004 in Kiekeberg open-air museum. VIEH grants the status or mark "Nutztier- Arche" - breeding facilities keeping old rare breeds of domestic animals that fulfill certain conditions for breeding and feeding. In total it is around 240 Nutztier- Arche in Germany and six in neighboring countries (2013). The organization has several thousand supporters.
