Landeszooverband Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
State zoo association of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (Westerm Pomerania) was founded in 2001, but its history is much longer. In the times of the GDR, large and small surrounding zoos worked closely together, and so in 1974 the Working Group North (Arbeitsgemeinschaft Nord or AG Nord) was established, its center was the Rostock Zoo and it comprised the tierparks of the 3 northernmost regions (which roughly corresponded to today's and also to the pre-war state of Mecklenburg - Western Pomerania). In 1992, the Verbands der tiergärtnerischen Einrichtungen Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns (Association of Zoological Facilities of Mecklenburg-Westerm Pomerania) arised from AG Nord, but it existed for a short time only, more precisely, it failed to be put into operation, only annual meetings were held from 2006 - so-called Conferences of zoos of Mecklenburg-Westerm Pomerania (Konferenz der Tiergärten Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns). This led to the founding (or re-founding) of a joint association - Interessengemeinschaft der Tiergärten Mecklenburg-Vorpommerns (Interest Association of Zoos of Mecklenburg-Westerm Pomerania) in 2001. Since 30 th November 2007, the association uses the current name. It associates most of the country's facilities and is the only German state zoo association - no other federal state has its own standard zoo association (only North Rhine-Westphalia has a working group of Partner Zoos "NRW-Partnerzoo").
