    World Association of Zoos and Aquariums

    founded 1935 in Basel as IUDZG (International Union of Directors of Zoological Gardens), ceased to exist during World War II. New IUDZG was founded 1946 in Rotterdam, renamed to IUDZG - WZO (World Zoo Organisation) in 1992, to WZO only in 1998 and to WAZA in 2000. It associates around 290 zoos and aquariums from all over the World and more than 20 international and also national zoo associations + various organisations.

    Programmes: CBP (Conservation Breeding Programmes), ISB (International Studbooks)

    Establishment: 1935 (as IUDZG) in Basel, re-establisged (after WWII) 1946 in Rotterdam
