Královská obora

Today's Storomovka was probably founded by Ottokar II of Bohemia in 1268 (no proof about that exists, the first written records are from 1320). It served of course for hunting purposes, was destroyed in the Hussite period and restored by Ferdinand I in the 1530s - 1550s. The breeding history begins in 1547, when there was created a huge pond (21 ha) for fish breeding, three smaller ponds for breeding of waterfowl, pheasantry and breeding of wisents, buffaloes, wild boars and foxes was added to current breeding of red and roe deer and mares.

The greatest flourishing of the game park occurred during the reign of Rudolf II - in 1584 he had done park adaptations of the landscape, created more ponds and bored 1,097 m long tunnel from Vltava river under Letná up to the centre of the Royal Game Park (for water supply of ponds by Vltava water). At the same time he introduced the breeding of other species of animals and made from the game park along with Hvězda Game Park de facto a branch of the Royal Menagerie (also known as the Lion's Court). It was reported that Rudolf II was keen on watching rather than hunting animals in the park. He had allegedly named the big (ie. mammals) and could distinguish them. The menagerie was not open to the public, but Rudolf II reportedly organized from time to time "open days" for the public - from all three menageries most often just in Ovenec.

After the death of Rudolf II (1612) the court was moved to Vienna - the Game park lost its significance, and the breeding of wild "non-hunting" animals ended.

Red deer, fallow deer (since 1548), roe deer, elks, perhaps reindeer, horses, wild boars, wisents, buffalos, reportedly also aurochs, foxes, pheasants, partridges, waterfowl, large quantities of fish and certainly also other species about whose breeding no messages remained. Probably also mouflons (first in the country), but reports are about "wild sheep".
