Rožmberská obora

The Netolice game park and the Leptáč manor began to be built already by Jakub Krčín at the end of the 16th century. But Krčín's charming courtyard took a fancy to William of Rosenberg and so he changed it with Krčín for the town of Sedlčany in 1579. He then completed the game park and built the Kratochvíle Chateau. The 3,000 ha large game park was completed (fenced with a 22 km long wooden fence) in 1582. 5 villages and 44 estates and yards had to be disappear in order to complete such large game park. Mainly deer were here (red and roe deer), but alsop other animals were bred - fallow deer, wild boars, wild geese and ducks, swans and "sea little-ducks". In addition that, there were also pheasantry, horses enclosures, kennels (for hunting dogs), small rabbit game park and exotic menagerie with camels, buffaloes and other animals. According to the new findings, even an elephant was here. The inspiration for William of Rosenberg was allegedly among others also imperial menagerie in Neugebäude.

After the death of William of Rosenberg, his brother Peter Vok inherited the entire estate, and due to debts, he sold it to Rudolf II in 1602. However Rudolf did not go here, so the game park rather was fallen into disrepair (and same also the chateau). During the Thirty Years' War, the game park was plundered by soldiers and ceased to exist shortly after the war, bacause the rest of animals escaped through the damaged fencing.

The game park was partly for hunting, partly for breeding, but generally it served mainly for representative purposes - everyone a bit important went here, including Rudolph II - according to some sources. According to other sources, on the contrary, Rudolf was never here and bought the estate only according to the detailed paintings which he ordered.
