ZOO SNV Spišská Nová Ves Zoological garden

Zoo in Spišská Nová Ves was founded in 1989 in a city park - originally as facility of Technical Services. At the time, there was the only pavilion (with lion and leopard), lake with waterfowl and several cages and enclosures with other animals. In 2000, the zoo passed to the municipality and became a member of UCSZ, later expanded its area from 6.5 to current 8 hectares. Today it is a smaller, but a full-valued and very pleasing zoo with lots of animals. In 2012, the exhibition Aquaterra was opened, however it is accessible only from the park (not from the zoo).

Lions, tigers leopards, jaguars, cougars, lynxes and other small cats, bears, coatis, mongooses, meerkats, orangutan, gibbons, mandrills, Brazza monkeys, spider monkeys, capuchins, lemurs, tamarins, zebras, waterbucks, camels, llamas, fallow deer, mouflons, wallabies, capybaras, porcupines, ostriches, rheas, emus, owls, parrots, pheasants, waterfowl, caimans, snakes, lizards, turtles, fish, spiders, scorpions...
