Pécsi Állatkert; Pécsi Állatkert és Akvárium - Terrárium *1 Pécs Zoo and Aquarium - Terrarium *1

One of the smallest Hungarian zoo. It is situated in a beautiful forest area above the city on Mecsek Hill. Zoo is very outdated, most animals still in cages behind bars or in pens behind the wire cloth. The only little more modern exhibitions are for porcupines and small beasts (meerkats etc.), hippopotamus, ring-tailed lemurs and squirrel monkeys. In 2010 it was decided to increase subsidies for the development of the zoo, to enlarge the area to about 15 ha in size and subsequent rebuilding to the zoo of 21st century. Finally (May 2014 - May 2016), only the current zoo (3.5 ha) was renovated. All this time, the zoo was closed.
