Zoo Bítov

A small private zoo was founded in 1999 in the Bítov Castle - based on the example of legendary Zoo of Baron Haas. After nine years of existence, the zoo was fined by the Ministry of Environment (nearly 200 thousand CZK - more than 8000 €) for the unauthorized using of the name "ZOO" (in the Czech republic, the name zoo or its compound word can be used only by a facilities which have a license from the Ministry of Environment). Subsequently, the zoo had changed its name to "Zvířata v hardní zahradě" (Animals in the Castle Garden). In October 2010, the zoo (due to high rent and the poor opening hours) moved to a new location - to the Windübel Garden, lying on the road to the castle (about 1 km from it) near the parking at the hotel and tower Rumburak. The original zoo had about 20 species (about 100 specimens) - fallow deer, llama, fox, fishing cat, racoon dogs, raccoons, pigs, wild boars, goats, guinea pigs, ostriches, rptors, parrots, ravens, storks, waterfowl, hen, boas ... New Zoo in Windübelu is still more like a Grandma's little courtyard - especially domestic animals - ponies, goats, cows, rabbits, nutria, guinea pigs, degus, racoon dogs, chickens, ducks, turkeys, pigeons, water turtles ... Some of domestic animals are in more breeds. Many other expositions and animals are planned (12 breeds of rabbits, moufflons, roe deer, small exotic birds, various Columbidae, pheasants, guinea fowl, peacocks, coatis, raptors, bees etc.).
