Natur- und Vogelschutzpark des Heinrich Lumpe

Although the Lumpepark was not a classical zoo, is almost a direct predecessor of Ustí nad Labem Zoo. Private Nature and Bird Park, which built Heinrich Lumpe (soon everybody began call it Lumpepark), was primarily a bird sanctuary. Everything else here was mainly due to birds and education to protect the birds. Numerous botanical collections, ponds with insect larvae, hundreds man-made nesting sites and cavities attracted large numbers of birds (mainly song birds), who didn't fly from here. Due to overwhelming demand the Lumpepark began permanently open its doors to the public (1920 / 1921) from spring to beginning of winter - from end of bird nesting to the preparations of the park for wintering. Since the time in the park, there was added also number of fairy tale characters and buildings that should attract even greater numbers of children. Afterwards Lumpe urged them by form of the lectures to protect birds. Further, there were several fossils (eg petrified forest, petrified oak, prehistoric bird egg...). In addition to the bird paradise there was for visitors also enclosure of roe deer, aligators and may be also bears.

The Park survived the death of its founder Heinrich Lumpe (22 February 1936), when his nephew Alfred taken over it. Even he managed to keep Lumpepark to the last months of the war. However after that the whole Lumpe family was evicted to Bavaria and the Lumpepark already was not opened in the season 1946. It was subsequently confiscated and changed into a public park (Sady Edvarda Beneše). But soon there was created a zoo-corner and therefrom the Zoo Usti nad Labem was arisen in 1949.
