MOS Přerov

In 1937 the Moravian ornithological society began with the building of the Moravian Ornithological Station (MOS). The building was completed 1938. Around the house (in the area of 2 hectares) the society planted trees and shrubs, made ponds, 24 cages and 18 aviaries. In the aviaries were more than 100 birds. Furthermore were in the station 200 dermoplastic preparates (prepared birds), dozens of nests and large oology collection (collection of eggs). Also ornithological library was considerable.

During the World War II had managed to keep the station in the run and to expand the breeding for poultry, pigeons and exotic birds. However 20th November 1944 the station was completely destroyed by bombs during an air raid of U.S. aircraft. Only the library remained intact. Until 1946, everything was repaired and new aviaries was built. At the turn of 50s and 60s the MOS passed shortly under the management of museum, but from 1962 worked again separately. From 1 January 1970 the Station have been transferred definitively under District Museum (now Museum of Comenius). The museum took over 811 books, magazines etc., 41 nests and 174 clutches, but subsequently removed all aviaries and abolished the breeding of birds. Moravian ornithological society renewed its activity (registered 1991), but without breeding. Ornithological collections are part of the museum to the present day, also the Ornithological Station ORNIS works here, but even that is without breeding of birds.
