Obora Hohenlohe

At the end of 19 Century, Prince Phillipp Ernst Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst gradually established in the 350 ha large game preserve on the outskirts of Podebrady a small zoo for pleasure of self, guests and the public. He fenced off the whole area and in 1891 gave there Asian sika deer. Those was doing very well in the preserve and in 1912 them were already 40 specimens. At the beginning of the 20th century he brought blackbucks and llamas and still added more species. Soon he bred twenty kangaroos and several reindeers. The biggest attraction for the public were emus, rheas and ponies imported from Scotland. There were also fallow deer and probably also other animals - flamingos, wapiti, white-tailed deer, maras. 1909, Hohenlohe in the preserve even opened a restaurant pavilion. Breeding of exotic animals in this promisingly booming zoo was finished at the beginning of the World War I.
