Popis, zvířata
Mini-zoo of the Park of culture and rest was opened in spring 1964 - originally in front of the Pardubice castle (today Tyršovy sady). It was only eight aviaries, one enclosure and pond. For the winter, animals were placed in the space next to children's playground on the other bank of Chrudimka river (opposite Hotel Zlatá štika, today the Land Registry Office is here). In the following year (1965) the zoo-corner didn't return to Tyršovy sady and remained at its new location.
A wintering was opened (also for public) and dozens cages and enclosures created. In this year the mini-zoo exhibited 47 species, breed and color forms of animals (two years later it was 55). Also aquarium was made, but due to excessive growths of algae in it lastly only hamsters found their home. There were monkeys (rhesus macaques, baboons, green monkeys), pumas, lynx, wolves, dingos, foxes, bears, small carnivores (martens, ferrets), porcupines, moufflons, racka sheep, camels, yak, ponies, donkeys, small parrots and exots, storks (white and black), local song birds, waterfowl, several raptors and owls, tortoises etc.
The zoo-corner was abolished 1970 (or 1971). In 2010, Pardubice region came up with the idea to restore a mini-zoo and asked for a grant from European funds. If the grant will be approved, the new minizoo should be mainly for domestic and handicapped animals.
