Zookoutek Olomouc

Something like a zoo was in the Smetana's gardens even several times ... In 1902 there was established an aviary with several tens of ornamental birds - it still could not be considered for the zoo, but already in 1921 there has arisen the first mini-zoo. There were horses, foxes, martens, deer, storks, doves, eagle, hawk, guinea pigs, swans on the pond, ornamental Chinese geese, Turkish ducks etc. The most popular was the male monkey called Fritzi in made-to-measure jacket. Later the breeding augmented for peacocks, budgerigars, and several species of pheasants. It is not known till when the mini-zoo operated.

Another mini-zoo in the Smetana's gardens (already predecessor of today's Olomouc Zoo) was set up early 50s. There were red and roe deer, budgies, peacocks and pheasants. The mini-zoo piqued huge interest of public, which resulted in the establishment of new large zoo (by the Regional People's Committee).
