Jablkynice Game Preserve (Deer-Park)

History of the preserve (deer park) is a little bit more complicated - it was founded sometime around 1750 by Fürstenberg's noble family in the Loučeň manor house. The old deer park was used for hunting and planting exotic trees (mainly for Karl Aloys Fürstenberg). Even before the end of reign (before 1800) the Fürstenberg's noble family moved the park near Jabkenice. It was long time without animals, in 1804 first deer were imported, already in 1865 there were 90 deer, 130 fallow deer, 13 wild boar and 15 roe deer. About "historical zoo" it can be told till in the time of Alexander Thurn und Taxis (he inherited the castle and preserve in 1889). He filled up the park by exotic animals. Reindeer breeding were unsuccessful, but axis deer was soon in a family way. Bisons was the most remarkable animals of that time, but they destroyed the forest and so the breeding was ended after two years. Furthermore, there were sika, Dybowski!s and wapiti deer, moufflons, kangaroos, maras, ostriches, emus, flamingos, wild turkeys, black grouses, "Japanese geese", ponies. At that time, there was also unique breeding of crayfish and fish (carps, pikes, tenches, eels, brown trouts, brook trouts and first time in the Czech Lands also rainbow trouts). Park was abolished shortly before the end of war and other assets were confiscated after the war. In 1963 the park has been restored - already just like the classic game park and for fallow deer only.
