Holešov Zoo-corner (Mini-zoo)

Mini-zoo (one of the most important in the country) was officially founded in 1948, but already before that the breeding of exotic animals has a tradition in Holešov manor house. Deer park of noble family Wrbna (in Holešov since cca the first half of 19th century.) looked more like a zoo than a game preserve. There were many species of exotic animals. In addition to fallow deer and mouflon, there were enclosures of several species of deer (chitals, roe deer etc.), wild boars, bisons, tahrs, rheas. In the manor moat and the court there were aviaries with birds of prey, owls and small carnivores (badgers, ferrets etc.). Horses, pheasants and peacocks was matter of course. In tha nationalized mini-zoo were monkeys (pig-tailed, lion-tailed and Rhesus macaques, baboons, Patas and Green monkeys, capuchins), lynx, dingos, several species of small carnivores, Przewalski horses, fallow deer, wapitis, axises, blackbucks, guanacos , yaks, Hungarian grey cattle, West Caucasian tur, porcupines, emus, rheas, ostriches, various species Anseriformes and Galliformes. Mini-zoo was closed 1996.
