Aquarium in Chomutov city park was built in 1932. At that time there were over 94 species of fish, amphibians and reptiles. In 1935 already more than 120 species - reptiles (mainly the genera Lacerta, Natrix, Elaphe and Coluber, but also boas, iguanas, tegus, anoles or Argentine snake-necked turtles), amphibians (frogs, salamanders, newts), fish, spiders, scorpions , crabs... A pond with waterfowl was added later. During the war, the aquarium was closed and reopened in 1947. In the 60s an outdoor exposure for rhesus macaques, green monkeys, baboons and small carnivores was built. In 1972 the park was renovated and it resulted in finish of the aquarium as a breeding facility (renovated building is in the park to this day). In the same year the Chomutov Zooaprk was opened (at that time named Lesopark).
